NEW DELHI: The Indian Cricket Board (ICB) has decided to rename the new stadium for the national team’s first home Test match after an outcry over its name.

The PCB has decided on the name ‘Poles Barn’ after a huge backlash to the name of the proposed new ground, which is being built for the India v Pakistan match in November 2019.

The new stadium is set to be named after former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting, who died in April 2018.

Pons is considered one of the greats in cricket history, and was one of India’s best bowlers.

It was his farewell match against Pakistan at the Oval that set the tone for a thrilling one-day Test against the West Indies at Lord’s in 2015.

Ponting was also the coach of India at the 1995 World Cup.
